                                      MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION

Medical transcription (MT) is the manual conversion of spoken reports into text that are dictated by doctors and other healthcare professionals.Usually, healthcare professionals dictate medical records into voice files and send them to the hospital's MT staff. After that, text is created from the voice files. The electronic health record (EHR) or electronic medical record (EMR) system at the hospital typically receives the transcribed medical reports that are prepared in digital form.To effectively transcribe medical records, the medical profession now uses speech recognition software and medical transcription software (MTS).

Usually, the process begins with the doctor or healthcare professional writing down the patient's data. A transcriptionist next receives the recording, listens to it, records the information, and then proofreads it for correctness. To accurately transcribe the recording, the transcriptionist needs to be well-versed in medical vocabulary, anatomy, and physiology. The completed paper is then returned to the doctor or other healthcare professional for review.

The doctor can then review the record and make any required changes before returning it to the transcriptionist for final editing. The patient's medical records receive the paperwork once it has been finalised.

Functions of a medical transcriptionist

  • Transcribing patient records, office notes, operation reports, history and physical examinations, ER visits, and discharge summaries are all examples of medical reports from doctors and other healthcare professionals.
  • Examine medical dictation to ascertain the structure and information that must be included in each report.
  • Use medical jargon and acronyms to appropriately prepare reports.
  • Check the reports that have been transcribed for proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Support HIPAA and other related rules in safeguarding patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain current understanding of anatomy, pharmacology, medical terminology, and diagnostic techniques.

By quickly and accurately documenting medical information, medical transcriptionists play a crucial part in the healthcare system. They are in charge of hearing the audio recordings made by healthcare professionals, writing them down, and checking the accuracy of the transcriptions. Medical transcriptionists must be able to navigate and use these tools due to the growing use of electronic health records and other digital technology. Along with proficiency in medical terminology, the position calls for strong verbal, written, and listening abilities. The work may be difficult, but it may also be fulfilling because it contributes to the healthcare system in a significant way.
